UTEC have been gathering Environmental data as part of Standard Site investigation requirements, specifically in regard to potential Sabellaria reefs. UTEC approach is as follows:
- Pre-selection of typically 6-15 sites per 1x1 km block
- Identification of possible habitat(s) from Side Scan Sonar records
- Drop Camera and if required, deployed at pre-selected and/or additionally identified targets
- Key sites, such as anchor locations and spud cans locations to be targeted and sampled accordingly
Step 1 - Recognisance
High Resolution Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar
& Interpretation
- Klien 3000 Side Scan Sonar
- High speed high acquisition options
- Simulations Frequencies 133 kHz and 445 kHz
- Coda Recording and Replay operations
- Geophysicist interpretation and target identification
Step 2 - Ground Truthing Operations Drop Camera System
- DTS 3000 Multiplexer System
- Digital Stills Camera c/w Strobe
- LED Lamps x 2
- Deployment Frame
Step 3 - Seabed Sampling Operations Grabbing Operations
- 0.1m2 Hamon Grab
- Van Veen Grab
- Crane or capstan deployed
- Samples can be photographed upon recovery
- Option to sub sample and analysis
- Option to 'Fix' with Formaldehyde for Biological analysis
